At a press conference Tuesday morning at the National Palace, presided over by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Omar García Harfuch explained how the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has reorganized following the arrest of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, who died in an operation on February 22.
“Since we mentioned him after the operation, they have clearly identified regional leaders with very defined territories. This prevented a breakdown in control or excessive violence. Subsequently, more arrests were made by the security cabinet, the Ministry of Defense, and the Navy,” said the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico.
“The regional leaders continue to operate, however, we have arrest warrants and extradition orders. Their relationship with the Sinaloa Cartel itself was through the main leader (El Mencho), who had a close relationship with a faction, specifically with Los Chapos. We have already identified this.”
García Harfuch specified that the main alliance consisted of the Jalisco Cartel providing financial and personnel support to Sinaloa, specifically to the sons of Joaquín Guzmán Loera.
