Cristiano Ronaldo has made his return with the 2026 World Cup in sight. The Portuguese star—who remains hot on the trail of the elusive 1,000-goal milestone—issued a message serving as a warning to all his rivals in the upcoming summer tournament, where he will seek to finally claim the coveted 18-karat trophy.
“El Bicho” declared himself ready for duty with Portugal via a social media post. He shared a photo of himself walking—bag and jacket in hand—alongside a powerful message: “The World Cup Mission Begins!” The post was accompanied by a Portugal flag emoji.
The Portuguese national team has already reported for duty under the command of their head coach to continue preparations for their opening match and the two subsequent fixtures of the World Cup group stage. However, it is Cristiano Ronaldo who has stolen the spotlight, leading his teammates as the squad’s most experienced player.
“El Comandante” will be making his sixth World Cup appearance, arriving as the tournament’s marquee player to watch. Yet, he is joined by an impressive generation of stars on a squad determined to make history.
Portugal will begin its 2026 World Cup campaign as the top seed in Group K, where they will share the bracket with Colombia, Uzbekistan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The team, managed by Roberto Martínez, will play its entire group stage schedule in the United States; their first two matches will take place at NRG Stadium in Houston, while their final group-stage clash—against Colombia—will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
