An investigation by the news portal *Latinus* has revealed that former soccer player Giovani Dos Santos secured multi-million dollar contracts with Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) through a company of which he has been a partner since 2023.
According to the report, the firm Procura de México—in which the former player holds a stake—was awarded a contract in September 2024 worth $13.7 million (238,107,370 Mexican pesos) for the supply of chemical products. The agreement was finalized during the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The case has sparked controversy because Procura de México’s stated corporate purpose does not include the trading of hydrocarbons or chemical derivatives—activities that constitute the core business of Pemex.
According to business records, the company was founded in 2005 in Tabasco, and its listed business activities include the sale of milk, cleaning supplies, and hotel construction.
The investigation notes that Dos Santos joined the firm as a partner in September 2023, following a transaction recorded at the notary office of Ángel Mario Balcázar Martínez—a former security official in the state government led by Adán Augusto López Hernández. Prior to that date, there are no records of any contracts between Pemex and the aforementioned company.
Two months after joining the firm, the former national team player released a video on social media in which he expressed his support for Sheinbaum’s presidential campaign. The *Latinus* report highlights this fact as part of the political context surrounding the finalization of the contract.
