The *Madres Buscadoras de Jalisco* (Searching Mothers of Jalisco) collective located a clandestine grave in the La Piedrera neighborhood, within the municipality of El Salto, where they found at least five bodies wrapped in bags.
Members of the collective told media outlets that they received the tip-off via an anonymous phone call. Furthermore, they noted that accessing the site was difficult, requiring them to crawl through a narrow space situated behind a farmhouse.
“We followed the trail to a skull; the moment we saw the skull, a strong odor wafted out, and we said to ourselves: ‘Well, it’s not just the skull.’ There was a mattress underneath; we pulled the mattress out, and as soon as we removed it, we began pulling out bags containing human remains. We started pulling out a bag containing a torso, then a head, and legs. In total, we counted five,” recounted a member of the group.
During their inspection, they detected the possible presence of additional buried human remains. They decided to halt their handling of the site to avoid compromising the evidence and notified the authorities—who, according to the collective’s testimony and a social media post by Ceci Flores (leader of the *Madres Buscadoras de Sonora*), did not arrive at the scene immediately.
Ceci Flores spoke out on her social media channels, stating: “The Searching Mothers of Jalisco have located a clandestine burial site in El Salto—alone, without the support of any authority, and while risking their own lives and physical safety.”
