Christopher Landau, former US Ambassador to Mexico and current Assistant Secretary of State, doubts that Juan Carlos Valencia González, “El Pelón” or “El 03,” holds US citizenship, a fact that would make it difficult for the Trump administration to pursue him, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The official questions the granting of “US citizenship as if it were a gift to the children of undocumented immigrants or those with temporary residency, who, by definition, are not domiciled in our country nor do they enjoy the necessary ties of loyalty to it.”
The official’s statement comes after several reports identified him as the one who assumed leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) following the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” his stepfather.
