Members of the Mexican Navy and the Colima State Police killed César Gabriel Zepeda Guzmán, alias “La Barquita,” identified as the hitman leader of La Mayiza, during an armed confrontation on the afternoon of March 18 in Manzanillo.
The operation took place when authorities intercepted an armed group on the Miguel de la Madrid coastal boulevard, a main thoroughfare in the port city of Manzanillo. The confrontation left several dead, the exact number of whom was not specified, and resulted in the arrest of a woman who was with the criminal leader, as confirmed by the Colima State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
Security sources detailed that the woman was injured during the operation and remains in police custody.
The operation began near a shopping center and extended to the Plaza Punto Bahía area, where the vehicle in which Zepeda Guzmán was traveling was intercepted.
