The head of the Deltas, the armed wing of the Jalisco Cartel, has been indicted for drug trafficking and the use of firearms and destructive instruments in federal court in Washington, D.C., following his extradition from Mexico to the United States, along with 36 other drug kingpins.

The indictment against Armando Gómez Núñez, alias El Delta 1, filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and approved by a grand jury, alleges that from January 2012 until the indictment was filed in December 2015, he participated in the production and trafficking of cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine into the United States.

“Gómez Núñez, also known as El Delta 1 or El Máximo, is the notorious leader and commander of Los Deltas, a violent execution and assassination cell of the CJNG cartel. Mexican authorities arrested Gómez Núñez in December 2025,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated regarding the man.

Armando Gómez Núñez is under investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
