In a direct attack that included setting vehicles on fire to facilitate escape or block the road, Israel Ortiz Castillo, who until recently served as operational subcommander of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), was executed. The murder occurred on the night of Friday, January 16, in the La Joyita neighborhood.

According to police reports, the attack took place around 11:00 p.m. on Faisanes Street. Ortiz Castillo was in his official vehicle when he was intercepted by hitmen, who fired 90 shots at the patrol car, killing him instantly.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency personnel and security forces not only confirmed the death of the police commander but also located two vehicles engulfed in flames at the end of Ruiz Extension:

A Honda.

A Hyundai Elantra.

It is presumed that these vehicles were intentionally set on fire by the gunmen as part of a diversionary tactic or to obstruct the deployment of support forces after the attack.

Initial lines of investigation link this murder to an incident that occurred just days earlier, on January 12, in the Terrazas El Gallo neighborhood. It was revealed that Israel Ortiz Castillo led the operation to execute an arrest warrant against former police officer Martín “N”.

During this operation, law enforcement agents encountered a violent situation in which a 21-year-old man, the son of the wanted former officer, was killed.

This incident generated significant tension in the region and placed the subcommander’s actions under public and internal scrutiny.

It was unofficially reported that the victim had recently left his operational post before being targeted in the attack.
