The U.S. Southern Command reported Thursday the destruction of a speedboat associated with drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific, an action that left four people dead and is part of Washington’s campaign to target the maritime routes of groups classified as “narco-terrorists.”
The U.S. force stated that “the attack was carried out against a vessel sailing in international waters under the control of an organization designated as terrorist. Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was transporting illicit narcotics and crossing an identified trafficking route in the Eastern Pacific.”
In a statement released on social media, the military command specified that “four narco-terrorists were killed aboard the vessel.”
Accompanying the statement, authorities released a video showing a speedboat with four outboard motors moving rapidly before being struck and engulfed in flames.
