During a press conference, Carlos Torres Piña, Attorney General of Michoacán, asserted that the accusations of irregularities and torture made by Jorge Armando “N,” alias “El Licenciado,” the prime suspect in the murder of Carlos Manzo, after his capture in Morelia, are lies.
The Attorney General stated that the arrest was carried out legally and in flagrante delicto, as the suspect was carrying drugs and a firearm, and had attempted to escape by bribing the police with $10,000. He also asserted that Jorge Armando “N’s” accusations are intended to obstruct the investigation.
Furthermore, Torres Piña emphasized that upon being transferred to the El Altiplano maximum-security prison, the detainee signed a document stating his consent and confirming that his arrest had been conducted entirely legally and, of course, free from torture.
