Amid the emergency caused by torrential rains that caused severe flooding in Veracruz, images and videos began circulating on social media showing the delivery of food supplies attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the municipality of Tihuatlán.
In one of the clips shared on social media, armed individuals wearing tactical uniforms, balaclavas, and weapons are seen unloading a truck full of bags of food, while citizens line up to receive the aid.
The context of this delivery occurs as the death toll from the rainfall and flooded rivers continues to rise. As of the latest report, authorities have confirmed at least 64 people dead and dozens missing in several states, including Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, and Querétaro. Added to this is the fact that thousands of families are facing shortages of basic supplies and reporting slow arrivals of institutional aid, which has given criminal groups the opportunity to show their supposed support for the communities.
The recording allows us to hear several voices of those participating and donating the goods: “On behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.”
