The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJES) has clarified the femicide of 15-year-old Leyla Monserrath ‘N’, which occurred on September 25 in the El Desierto ejido (communal land) in the municipality of General Plutarco Elías Calles, also known as Sonoyta.

According to the forensic report, the teenager was murdered by mechanical asphyxiation. The investigation established the probable involvement of two female adolescents, ages 13 and 15, respectively.

Initially, the investigation focused on an adult named Martín ‘N’, alias El Kalusha or Minimi, who was later found dead and identified by forensic experts through fingerprint matching. Subsequently, through new and compelling evidence submitted to the investigation file, the direct involvement of the two minors in the aforementioned crime was established.

During a search of the home where the events occurred, the victim’s body was found, along with significant material evidence that confirmed the nature of the crime and the involvement of those involved.
It is worth mentioning that Leyla Monserrath’s family and friends launched a vigorous campaign to publicize the case on social media, directly targeting the two young women currently detained, whom they identified as alleged friends.

According to unofficial reports, the suspects decided to commit the crime due to a personal issue involving a romantic relationship.

The victim’s family is calling for exemplary punishment given the malicious intent of the acts. However, the minors will be prosecuted based on the national law of the Comprehensive Adolescent Criminal Justice System, which provides for less severe penalties.
