Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, current mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, asked President Claudia Sheinbaum to ensure that federal authorities do not “abandon” the state and added that several National Guard agents have been withdrawn.

The message is also addressed to the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch. In his post shared on October 8, the mayor of Uruapan points out that the state he oversees is facing security problems stemming from the activities of organized crime.

Through his social media, Carlos Manzo stated that more than 200 National Guard members had recently arrived in the state to reinforce operations in the municipality.

“We respectfully call on the Federal Government, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and Secretary Omar García Harfuch to not leave Uruapan alone in combating federal crimes, which the Federation is responsible for addressing,” the statement reads.
