Sandra Lucía Téllez Nieves, one of the owners of the ABC Daycare in Hermosillo, was arrested this Friday in Sonora after being deported from the United States, where she remained a fugitive evading justice.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that she was apprehended at the Nogales border, where a controlled deportation was implemented through the Dennis Deconcini border crossing, following various efforts by the FGR’s international affairs department.

“Regarding the events that occurred in the fire at the ABC Daycare in Hermosillo, Sonora, this is to ensure that she complies with the conviction issued against her for the commission of said crimes,” the Attorney General’s Office stated.

The defendant was transferred to the Sonoran capital to be admitted to the Women’s Social Reintegration Center, where she is being brought before a judge.

She is accused of responsibility in the 2009 ABC daycare fire, in which 49 babies died and many others survived with lifelong consequences.
