Federal forces arrested Alejandro “N,” alias “El Chuacheneger” or “El Diablito,” this Thursday, whom they identify as the alleged gang leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in the Chontalpa region of Tabasco, a region contested by criminal groups and where insecurity and violence have risen as a result of these clashes.

“The arrest took place while security agents were conducting surveillance patrols in the municipality of Villahermosa, where they identified a subject traveling in a stolen vehicle, so they stopped him for an inspection,” the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) said in a statement.

“Security agents found a handgun and drug doses on him, and seized the vehicle, which had been reported stolen. Therefore, Alejandro ‘N’ was detained and informed of his legal rights. Along with the confiscated items, he was placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will determine his legal status,” it added. The agency headed by Secretary Omar GarcĆa Harfuch identified Alejandro “N” as “one of the main generators of violence in the Chontalpa region.” “The institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to Tabasco society to combat organized crime, deter crime, and restore peace of mind to families in the state,” they stated.

Members of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the SSPC participated in the operation to arrest the CJNG leader, along with the Tabasco Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
