Based on the series about a serial killer called Dexter, 16-year-old Cristian “N” plotted the murder of 13-year-old Keyla Nicol Duarte Acevedo in the El Rosario de Abajo neighborhood of the municipality of San Quintín, Baja California, on July 1.

According to the Baja California Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Cristian “N” allegedly plotted to murder Keyla with malice aforethought, as drawings of the crime were found at his home, as if they were some kind of blueprint or guide to avoid mistakes.

One of the drawings shows what appears to be a body with blood stains on the head, chest, arms, and legs, as if it had been stabbed all over.

The second drawing found depicts another body that appears to have been dismembered from the base of the neck to the right forearm.

According to Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, on July 2, Keyla Nicol’s mother reported the minor missing to the San Quintín Municipal Police, stating that she had last been seen on July 1 around 3:00 PM when she went to a friend’s house, but never returned.

Accounts indicate that before losing contact, Keyla managed to send a text message to a friend in which she wrote that she felt unsafe: “I’m nervous because (Cristian) is carrying a stick.” “If I don’t show up soon, let my family know.” However, the message never reached adults; it was only shared among underage acquaintances, who didn’t act until the next day when they saw Nicol’s mother’s desperation.

With the distress message in hand, they went to request assistance from the Municipal Police, but according to the complaint, they were denied immediate assistance and told to wait 72 hours to activate the corresponding protocol, when by law the search must be immediate, especially for minors.

This omission was noted in the ongoing investigation and was acknowledged by the mayor of San Quintín, Miriam Cano.
