A direct attack occurred on the morning of Tuesday, May 20, resulting in the deaths of Ximena Guzmán, private secretary to Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada, as well as her advisor, José Muñoz.

According to official information released by the General Coordination of Citizen Communication, the victims were traveling in a black Audi when they were intercepted by armed individuals traveling in a similar vehicle.

The attack occurred at the intersection of Calzada de Tlalpan and Napoleón Street, in the Moderna neighborhood, Benito Juárez borough, when Clara Brugada’s two collaborators were parked in their luxury car in front of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) facilities.

Initially, a report of a shooting in front of the Xola Metro station alerted authorities. Initially, it was believed that a couple was attacked inside a luxury car parked on Calzada de Tlalpan, near Eje 4 Sur Xola, in the Álamos neighborhood. However, it was later confirmed that the victims were close associates of the capital’s president and that the attack occurred very nearby, within the city hall itself.

The Mexico City government, in coordination with the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office and with support from the federal government, is already conducting the corresponding investigations and analyzing video surveillance recordings to identify the attackers.

“There will be no impunity; those responsible will be arrested and must face justice,” the Mexico City government stated in its statement.
