The professional and personal success that Bárbara de Regil achieved many years ago preceded an adolescence marked by an unexpected pregnancy at the age of 16, the immediate abandonment of her partner, and financial instability.

After decades of secrecy, de Regil decided to break her silence on the reality show Secretos de Pareja, where she revealed that she was a victim of child abuse.
Her raw account, Secretos de Pareja, a project from the streaming content platform CanelaTV, documents the love lives of eight celebrities in Mexican showbiz, including Bárbara de Regil’s marriage to businessman Fernando Schoenwald.
Its premiere sparked a conversation on social media due to Bárbara de Regil’s unprecedented fragility. With the intention of her testimony helping to raise awareness about the risks of child abuse, she revealed that she was sexually assaulted by someone who worked for her parents.
Why did she break her silence?
Convinced that verbalizing trauma helps heal emotional wounds, Bárbara de Regil shared her testimony with a dual intention: to heal wounds and prevent others from opening up.
“I tell it to women to motivate them, and in case anyone is experiencing the situation I went through when I was 12, to see that there is a silver lining, that your life doesn’t end there, that it’s not a grave, it’s a pothole, that you can get out of it with therapy, with self-love, and of course, Fer has helped me a lot to overcome my past wounds,” she stated.
Prior to the episode’s premiere, Bárbara de Regil told her followers that it wasn’t easy to accept the project. The actress shared excerpts from the first episode on Instagram along with a lengthy message: “I’m never going to lie to you: I’m happy it’s premiering, but I’m also very nervous. We did it with the full intention of entertaining you and showing a more real side of me, Fer, and our relationship. But let’s be real. A trip with strangers, an intense experience, another country, lots of emotions… and yes, not everything went as planned. But that’s life, right?” the influencer reflected.
