It was a birthday party in the Ocean House lounge of the now-defunct Hotel Marbella, located in Los Cabos, Baja California, with guests from the worlds of sports, music, and entertainment. The music was playing, the atmosphere was festive, and the former lead singer of Banda El Recodo, Luis Antonio López “El Mimoso,” was singing on stage.
But in a matter of seconds, the celebration turned into the scene of an execution.
Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix was murdered during his 63rd birthday party, held on October 18, 2013.
Among those in attendance were figures such as boxer Omar Chávez, former soccer player Jared Borgetti, and “El Mimoso,” who unwittingly found himself at the center of a scene that shocked the country.
According to investigations by the then Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office and reports from Semanario Zeta and Reuters, around 8:00 p.m., a man dressed as a clown entered the party and shot Arellano Félix five times.
