A gunman was killed Friday night at the El Chaparral Border Crossing, or San Ysidro Border Crossing, a key border crossing between San Diego, California, and Tijuana, Baja California. The incident occurred when the individual attempted to enter Mexican territory without complying with arrest warrants issued by US authorities.
According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded at the El Chaparral Border Crossing when US officers instructed the driver of a pickup truck to stop and get out of the vehicle.
The man refused to obey instructions and, according to initial reports, threatened the officers. Faced with this situation, the officers did not hesitate and responded with gunfire, resulting in the individual’s death at the scene.
The incident prompted a rapid and massive mobilization of members of the San Diego Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to the border crossing area. The situation led to the partial closure of some adjacent roads while the corresponding investigation was carried out.
To date, authorities have not revealed the identity of the deceased or the motive behind his attempted escape to Mexico.
Both U.S. and Mexican agencies are collaborating in the investigation to clarify the events and determine the precise circumstances that led to the officers’ use of lethal force. More details are expected to be provided in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
