Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) Omar García Harfuch announced that Edgar Aarón “N”—known as “El General” or “El Lic”—was killed in the State of Mexico. He was identified as the leader and founder of the “Nuevo Imperio” (New Empire) Cartel, which operates in the State of Mexico, Morelos, and Mexico City.

On social media, the Secretary stated that SSPC officers came under fire while conducting an operation to execute an arrest warrant for organized crime against “El General.” “Upon repelling the attack, this individual lost his life.”

Under investigation for various crimes
He was being investigated for kidnapping, extortion, homicide, illegal seizure of property, money laundering, fuel theft, and drug trafficking to the United States and Canada.

On November 19, 2025, he was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which accused him of providing protection in Mexico to Ryan James Wedding and using police contacts to locate targets for his criminal organization.

The head of the SSPC noted that investigations point to him as the mastermind behind the murder of “our colleague Milton Morales Figueroa, which took place on July 21, 2024. We have not forgotten Milton, nor his dedication and commitment to the security of Mexico City and our country.”

He reiterated that honoring his memory means continuing the investigations until everyone responsible for this crime is brought to justice.

García Harfuch added that, in coordination with the FGR’s Criminal Investigation Agency, the National Intelligence Center, the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC-CDMX), the Mexico City and State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Offices, the State of Mexico Secretariat of Security, and other institutions within the Security Cabinet, authorities will continue intelligence and investigative efforts to identify and arrest the remaining members of this organization and dismantle its criminal networks.
