Terry Cole, a director at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), has claimed a central role in the killing of Jesús González Peñuelas—known as “Chuy González”—a high-ranking operative for the Guasave Cartel.
In this regard, the U.S. official noted that the DEA’s intelligence sharing, along with its coordination with the Mexican Navy and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), “contributed to efforts against this dangerous drug trafficker.”
Furthermore, Cole described the death of “Chuy González” as “a major blow” not only to the Guasave Cartel—where he was identified as a second-tier operative, ranking just below the leader, Fausto Isidro Meza Flores (alias “El Chapo Isidro”)—but also to its partner, the Sinaloa Cartel.
“His death represents a major blow to the Sinaloa Cartel, a designated foreign terrorist organization. The DEA’s significant intelligence sharing and close coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) contributed to efforts against this dangerous drug trafficker,” he stated in a release confirming the death of González Peñuelas.
