Guillermo Camacho Ávila, father of Huanusco Mayor Julieta Isamar Camacho García, died in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, 2026, after being the victim of an armed attack while traveling along Federal Highway 54, on the stretch connecting the municipal seat of Tabasco to Huanusco, Zacatecas.
According to official reports from the Zacatecas State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE), hitmen intercepted the victim on the aforementioned highway and fired at his moving vehicle.
As a result of the gunfire, the car sustained at least three bullet holes; this caused Camacho Ávila to lose control of the vehicle and crash in the northern area of the Huanusco municipal seat, opposite the Sports Complex.
Following the attack, the victim was transported alive to the “López Orozco” Hospital in the neighboring municipality of Jalpa, where his death was subsequently reported. Although hospital medical staff initially attributed the death to severe hypoxemia and blunt force trauma—leading to early speculation about possible cardiac arrest resulting from the accident—the official autopsy performed by the General Directorate of Forensic Services confirmed that the definitive cause of death was two gunshot wounds.
State Attorney General Cristian Paul Camacho Osnaya confirmed that it was a targeted attack. During the field investigation on Federal Highway 54, forensic personnel secured the damaged vehicle and entered several spent shell casings found at the crime scene into the chain of custody. Meanwhile, Mayor Julieta Isamar Camacho García—a member of the PAN party—issued an official statement demanding that investigating authorities act with honesty, transparency, and adherence to the truth to prevent impunity. She urged the public not to spread unverified information and called for those responsible for the crime to be punished in accordance with the law.
The FGJE deployed investigative operations and anti-crime patrols in the vicinity of the municipalities of Tabasco and Huanusco, as well as in areas bordering the states of Jalisco and Aguascalientes, to locate the perpetrators and compile the corresponding investigation file.
