The Puebla State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) opened an investigation under the femicide protocol following the discovery of the lifeless body of 24-year-old María Fernanda Castañeda inside an apartment in the San Juan Aquiahuac neighborhood of San Andrés Cholula.
María Fernanda, 24, had been living with her partner, Alexandro Brian de Jesús Jiménez, in a San Andrés Cholula apartment for about a month. The two had met at UDLAP.
On Saturday, her father, Don Evanivaldo Castañeda, rushed to his daughter’s apartment; Alexandro was no longer there, and—according to the father’s account—neither María Fernanda’s family nor her twin sister was being allowed entry.
They were later informed that María Fernanda was inside the apartment but unresponsive; faced with this situation, her family entered.
Inside, Don Evanivaldo confirmed the worst; he also stated that police officers were present and had helped Alexandro’s parents leave the scene.
The family remained there until Sunday morning, when the Attorney General’s Office arrived around 11:00 a.m. to carry out the necessary procedures.
In the meantime, Alexandro had left the scene. However, he did not stay at large for long.
At the scene, FGE personnel processed the area, secured ballistic and biological evidence, and collected and analyzed footage from public and private surveillance cameras installed in the vicinity.
While municipal police were securing the site, Bryan Alexandro, 26—identified as the victim’s romantic partner—arrived at the location around 8:00 a.m. According to the official report, the subject attempted to enter the cordoned-off area and offered 5,000 pesos to security personnel in exchange for access.
When the officers refused, the individual became aggressive and attempted to physically assault them; he was subsequently subdued and turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of bribery and resisting arrest.
Although the young woman’s father directly identified him as the person responsible for the crime, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) clarified that the detainee is currently awaiting a determination of his legal status regarding the offenses committed in flagrante delicto, while evidence is being processed to formally charge him with femicide.
Regarding the backgrounds of those involved, Evanivaldo Castañeda, the victim’s father, stated that his daughter was a student at the School of Architecture at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) and had been in a relationship for two years with Bryan Alexandro N., whom he also identified as a student at the same institution.
However, UDLAP issued an official statement denying that either individual was currently enrolled or listed among its alumni, thereby distancing the university from those involved. The university’s stance prompted action from the campus feminist collective, which organized a protest at the 14 Oriente entrance to demand justice for María Fernanda N. and call for an official statement incorporating a gender perspective.
Prosecutors are continuing to process criminological forensic reports, conduct field inspections, and interview witnesses in order to clarify the sequence of events and formally charge the responsible party with femicide.
