On September 17, Mexican authorities arrested Francisco Javier “N,” identified as the probable perpetrator of the femicide of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte, who was attacked with a bladed weapon in the municipality of Cuautla on Saturday, September 12.
The arrest was confirmed by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, via social media. According to initial reports, the arrest was carried out by agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of Morelos state in the municipality of Cuautla.
The Morelos State Attorney General’s Office had released a wanted notice for the alleged attacker—unofficially identified by the alias “El Trompas”—the day before the arrest. The notice was issued hours after a specialized judge granted an arrest warrant against him.
State Prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron Escobar confirmed the judicial action before the first official photo of the alleged criminal was released. “Yesterday, we obtained—the Femicide Prosecutor’s Office obtained—an arrest warrant from a specialized judge against a male suspect for the femicide of Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera,” the official stated to the media on September 16. He noted that further details regarding the case would be released in the coming hours, though the main suspect would be arrested approximately 24 hours later.
